IMPORTANT CONDITION CENSUS PCGS MS62 1882-CC

In all circulated grades, the 1882-CC half eagle is common and it is available with some degree of regularity in MS60 to MS61. Nice MS62s remain rare with just two so far from the Fairmont hoard. I’ve never seen an MS63, and the two graded MS62+ by PCGS are nothing special.

This golden-orange and pale green-gold example has a bit of friction in the obverse fields from where it was rubbed against by other coins while stored in a bag, but it is accurately graded. The surfaces are very clean and lack the major marks seen on most every 1882-CC half eagle.

There have been three PCGS MS62 1882-CC half eagles sold at auction since the summer of 2022. These brought $18,600 (8/2022), $19,200 (8/2022), and $24,000 (for a PCGS/CAC coin offered in 3/3023).
