AN OUTSTANDING CAC APPROVED PCGS AU55 1851-D HALF EAGLE

Despite the appearance of four nice PCGS/CAC AU55s from the Fairmont Hoard (three in 2022 and one in 2023), the 1851-D half eagle remains a scarce issue in Choice AU and a rarity in Uncirculated.
This fresh-to-the-market example has rich, deep green-gold color as seen on unmolested 1851-D half eagles. The surfaces lack the abrasions seen on many of the Fairmont Dahlonega half eagles and there is a considerable amount of frosty luster on both sides. As on every single known 1851-D half eagle, the upper obverse and the corresponding reverse are weakly defined.
The last three APRs for this date in PCGS/CAC AU55 are $6,000 (7/2023), $6,600 (11/2022), and $7,200 (8/2022).
This coin will fit nicely into a set of high quality D mint half eagles.
