CHOICE AU 1870-S DOUBLE EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL
The 1870-S is a scarcer date than the 1871-S or the 1872-S double eagles. It is not often seen above AU53 to AU55 and it is rare (and expensive) in full Mint State.
This fresh-to-the-market example is frosty with natural russet toning over the obverse and the reverse. I personally grade this coin AU55 and it is choice save for an old scrape at the base of Liberty's throat.
There are no recent APR's for CAC-approved AU53 1870-S double eagles.
