SCARCE 1854-S $20 IN PCGS AU53, ex Fairmont

With original non-shipwreck surfaces, the 1854-S is the third scarcest Type One double eagle from San Francisco, after the 1861-S Paquet and the 1866-S No Motto.

This is a choice wholly original piece with good color and very nice surfaces.

There are five APRs for this date in PCGS AU53 since 2023—including this exact coin (see below)—with prices ranging from a low of $13,800 to a high of $18,000.

A numismatically significant issue as it is the very first SF double eagle and a really nice example as well.
