RARE PCGS/CAC PR58 THREE DOLLARS

This popular Civil War issue has an original mintage of just 35 and with as few as 15-17 known Proofs, it is rare in any state of preservation.

This coin is not a circulated or Impaired Proof. It has been mishandled but, in my opinion, it grades a solid PR61. The surfaces show nearly full reflectivity and are covered with medium to deep orange-gold color. A small, shallow mark in the left obverse field is detracting but not unexpected for the grade.

This is one of two pieces known in PCGS/CAC PR58 and it is far superior to its counterpart which last sold for $13,200 as Stack’s Bowers 4/2022: 3095.

CAC has approved two in PR58 with none finer. This does not include coins designated as CAM or DCAM.
