VERY CHOICE CAC APPROVED PCGS MS64 1907 HIGH RELIEF DOUBLE EAGLE
Wire Edge variety.
If you are in the market for a High Relief, let me try and sell you this nice coin.
You’ll no doubt want to know the following:
Is it nice? It is outstanding for the grade with 100% natural deep yellow gold color and an absence of rub on the obverse high spots as seen on so many MS64 and even MS65 examples of this beloved design.
When was it graded? The coin is in a Gen 4 holder, meaning it was graded between 1999 and 2002. Thus, we can state with certainty that the surfaces are stable.
Is the price fair? High sight-unseen bid on CCE for a PCGS/CAC MS64 Wire Edge variety is $39,500, with two other bidders at $38,500.
Why buy an MS64? In my experience, many MS63 High Reliefs have a significant amount of rub on the knee and breast of Liberty, while PCGS/CAC MS65 coins are expensive and not easy to locate. Were I contemplating buying an example of this issue, I would almost certainly look at MS64 as the “right” grade.
CAC has approved 161 examples in MS64 with 66 finer.
