This date is the second scarcest Type One double eagle from the Philadelphia mint after the 1862, and it is harder to locate than its Civil War counterpart with CAC approval.
Here is a textbook EF45 with lightly marked surfaces which retain a good deal of luster for the assigned grade. Unlike virtually every 1859 $20 in collector grades, this example has never been processed or lightened and it is very desirable as such.
The only comparable APR is Heritage 5/2022: 4942 at $10,200, and that coin wasn’t even close to this one in terms of quality and appearance.
A great coin for the Type One enthusiast.
CAC has approved just 3 in EF45 with 11 finer.
