The 1857 is much scarcer than the 1851-1854 double eagles from Philadelphia, yet it sells for essentially no premium in AU58.
This light green-gold example shows a small but noticeable mint-made copper spot directly in front of Liberty’s lips, plus another even smaller spot at the back of her jawline.
A different PCGS/CAC AU58 sold for $3,720 in Heritage’s 2024 FUN auction.
An undervalued issue at current levels.
