The A. Bechtler gold dollar was produced ca 1842-1852. It is the single most available issue from this mint, and I have personally handled a few specimens that grade as high as MS62 to MS63. While somewhat common in any circulated grade, high-end AU coins are not easy to locate.
This is a conservatively graded example in an older non-barcode PCGS 4.0 holder which means it was graded 30+ years ago. By today’s standards, I would grade this rich russet-gold piece a solid 55+/58. There is a considerable amount of mint luster present and the swelling in the right obverse field is mint-made. A light scratch can been seen between the T and the L in BECHTLER.
The last PCGS/CAC AU55 A. Bechtler gold dollar to sell at auction brought $4,560 as Goldberg 9/2019: 1399.
CAC has approved 15 in AU55 with 46 finer.
