1848-O $10, GRADED AU53 BY NGC AND APPROVED BY CAC
Unlike many of the other New Orleans eagles from the 1840s, the 1848-O is somewhat easier to locate in AU50 to AU53 than it is in EF40 and EF45.
This is a perfect representative for the assigned grade with choice surfaces below 100% natural soft russet-gold color.
Two Fairmont examples graded PCGS AU53 and approved by PCGS both sold for $6,600 in different 2023 Stack’s Bowers auctions.
If you are working on a New Orleans eagle set, save your money for the really rare issues and don’t overbuy the 1848-O. I think an AU53 is the perfect grade for most collectors.
CAC has approved nine in AU53 with 21 finer.
