1880-CC $10, GRADED AU55 BY NGC AND APPROVED BY CAC
If I were collecting this series, I would pass on a low-end (MS60 to MS61) 1880-CC at its current value of $40-50k, and I would also punt on an AU58 which at its current level of $17,500-22,500 seems overvalued. I would focus instead on a nice AU55. Just like this coin.
The images say it all: nice original russet color, light unobtrusive abrasions, and complete originality. This is a combination not often seen on mid-level AU 1880-CC eagles.
Due to the Fairmont hoard, there were four PCGS/CAC AU55 1880-CC eagles sold in 2023-24 with prices ranging from a low of $10,200 to a high of $15,600.
CAC has approved seven in AU55 with 16 finer.
