CAC APPROVED COLLECTOR GRADE 1838-C HALF EAGLE

HM-1, R-4+.

Given its status as a one-year type and a first-year-of-issue, the 1828-C is the single most popular half eagle struck at the Charlotte mint. It is not a scarce coin in regards to the total number known but it is an appearance rarity as most pieces have terrible eye appeal.

This is a Gem VF with lovely natural russet and green-gold hues which offer nice contrast between the devices and the fields. The detail is suggestive of an EF40 and the surfaces are clean for the issue with the obverse especially so.

The only CAC approved PCGS VF35 1838-C half eagle to ever sell at auction brought $6,600 as Heritage 4/2018: 5290 and that coin was far less choice than the one offered here.

I have handled virtually every 1838-C half eagle with CAC approval and this piece is among my favorites of the ones in collector grades.

CAC has appoved three in this grade with nine finer.
