LOVELY 1805 HALF EAGLE

BD-2, R-4. Perfect 1, close IT in UNITED.

The 1805 is not an an easy date to locate in nice AU grades, and most seen in AU55 or AU58 holders are either washed-out or have limited eye appeal. Nice, choice examples are difficult to locate.

This is an extremely attractive coin which, in my opinion, wouldn't look out of place in a 58 holder. It shows fiery reddish-gold color at the borders framing vivid lemon-gold centers. Both sides are well-detailed and lustrous while the surfaces are choice. There are a few light mint-made adjustment marks on the cap which are not easy to see without tilting the coin.

The most recent record for a PCGS AU55 1805 half eagle with CAC approval was Legend 4/2021: 381 which realized $15,683. Heritage 4/2016: 4779 sold cheaply at $11,171 but that coin was heavily spotted and it appeared to have "turned" in the holder due to having been processed.

This is an ideal type coin for the aesthetically-minded collector who wants to own a wonderful example of the Bust Right half eagle design.

CAC has approved 16 in this grade with 51 finer.
