THE FLOYD STARR 1884 THREE DOLLAR GRADED PR62 BY PCGS AND APPROVED BY CAC

Around half of the 109 Proofs made this year survive. Of these 50+ pieces, this is surely among the most original. Deep cloudy green-gold toning—from close to 90 years of sitting in a small manila paper coin envelope—is a clear indication that this piece has never been dipped or brightened.

In my opinion, PCGS was pretty rough on this example and I consider it to be a solid PR63 with a strong cameo beneath the aforementioned natural haze.

Heritage 2024 ANA: 4301 was graded PR63 by PCGS/CAC and while in an older green label holder, it had some detracting red spots on the obverse.

This coin has been off the market since 1935!

CAC has approved this one coin in PR62 with two finer as a non-Cameo or a non-Deep Cameo.

Ex Stack’s Bowers 2025 ANA: 3271 where I purchased it for $15,600, Floyd Starr Collection, Mehl 6/1939:804. Original flips are included.
