IMPORTANT TIED FOR HIGHEST GRADED AT PCGS 1849-O GOLD DOLLAR IN MS65+
The 1849-O is the very first gold dollar produced at the New Orleans mint. It is easily located in grades through MS63 but gems are very rare.
This frosty little Gem shows a sharply struck obverse with lovely rich orange-gold color changing to a subdued green-gold hue towards the border. A small amount of weakness is seen at the central reverse but the only detail that s affected is the top of the 4 in the date.
The Duckor coin, now graded PCGS/CAC MS65+, sold for $32,900 back in 2015, while the 400 Esplanade coin, ex Simpson, brought $25,200 in 2022.
An important coin for the advanced New Orleans gold collector.
