VERY RARE PCGS MS62 1883-CC $5

With just six to eight known in all Uncirculated grades, the 1883-CC half eagle is a serious condition rarity. The finest known is the PCGS/CAC MS63 Battle Born coin which set a record piece for the date ($96,000) as Heritage 2022 ANA: 3606.

This coin has been off the market since the 1980s and I recently crossed it from an NGC MS62 into a brand new PCGS slab. It is frosty and it shows the proper yellow-gold hue seen on unmolested examples of this date. There are no major marks noted while the overall strike is sharp.

Three APRs for PCGS MS62 1883-CC half eagles have occurred in the last 3+ years and they are as follows:

• Heritage 2025 FUN: 4806. Approved by CAC; realized $45,600.

• Stacks Bower’s 4/2022: 5155. Approved by CAC; realized $45,600.

• Heritage 2022 FUN: 4712. Approved by CAC; realized $50,400.

All three are off the market and the coin I am offering represents the best 1883-CC half eagle that is likely to become available in the coming months.
