SCARCE PCGS/CAC EF45 1884-CC HALF EAGLE

Only five Carson City half eagles were produced during the 1880′s. The 1881-C is the scarcest and the next hardest to locate is a toss-up between the 1883-CC and the 1884-CC. While seemingly available based on certified populations, in my experience the 1884-CC is hard to locate in collector grades, especially with good color and choice surfaces.

This choice, evenly worn example is a “textbook’ EF45 with good detail, a hint of luster and nice even wear. The surfaces are free of significant marks and the color appears to be unadulterated with even deep green-gold and a smidgen of dirt in the protected areas.

Only four have sold at auction since May 2000 which were PCGS graded and none were CAC approved.

CAC has approved 2 in this grade with 23 finer.
