VERY CHOICE PCGS/CAC VF35 1876-CC HALF EAGLE

By virtue of its low mintage of just 6,867, the 1876-CC is one of the scarcer Carson City half eagles. An estimated 100 or so exist with most in the VF-EF range. In my experience, this is an extremely challenging issue to locate with natural color and choice surfaces.

This coin is right on the cusp of grading EF40 and it has enough feather detail to make a strong claim as such. Both sides are evenly worn with nice natural russet color and no detracting marks.

Since 2007, only one coin (this piece) graded VF35 has sold at auction.

I like this coin more than other 1876-CC half eagles I have seen in EF40 holders.

CAC has approved this one coin in VF35 with six finer.

Ex Heritage 2/14:4124 where it sold for $4,994.
