CHOICE EF 1877-CC HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

Of the 8,680 1877-CC half eagles produced there are an estimated 125-150 known, mostly in the VF-EF range. This date is scarce in properly graded EF45 and it is not often seen with original color and choice surfaces.

This green-gold example shows some reddish and orange highlights in the protected areas and it has a very pleasing overall appearance. The wear is even and this piece has much cleaner surfaces than usual for the issue. Some luster adheres to the surfaces and the detail is suggestive of an AU50. A small natural spot at the third star serves as immediate identification.

Only two PCGS EF45′s have sold at auction since August 2011 and the last one sold for $5,463 as Heritage 5/12: 5038. No CAC approved EF45 from either service has ever appeared at auction.

This date is pricey in higher grades and for most CC half eagle collectors, this choice EF 1877-CC should prove irresistible for their date set of half eagles.

CAC has approved 3 in this grade with 9 finer.
