GEM AU55 PCGS/CAC 1800 $5.00

BD-2, High R-3.

This is a popular date given its status as the first half eagle from the 19th century and the 1800 is scarcer than dates such as as the 1802/1, 1803/2 and the 1806 Round 6. It is seen fairly regularly in AU55 and AU58 but most in these holders are overgraded and unoriginal.

This has to be one of the very nicest AU55 Bust Right half eagles of any date which survives. It has immaculate surfaces below rich,even green-gold color and it is boldly detailed with virtually no weakness at the centers as on most. This is an early die state which lacks any clashmarks and there are no adjustments on either side.

The last PCGS/AU55 example of this date to sell at auction brought $11,750 as Heritage 1/15: 7019 but that coin wasn't as choice for the grade as this one. A very nice CAC approved PCGS AU55 brought $12,338 as Heritage 9/14: 3398.

A wonderful coin for the type collector with great overall eye appeal and real character.

CAC has approved 21 in this grade with 50 finer.
