Eureka Hoard
The 1860 is many times scarcer than the 1861 but it doesn't get a big price premium as it isn't a Civil War date. Properly graded AU58 1860 double eagles with natural color and surfaces are not easy t locate and this date is very scarce in Uncirculated.
This very choice slider has a fully natural appearance with deep golden color slightly accentuated on the relief details. It is lustrous and there is no real wear but there is some bag friction on the obverse.
A non-CAC PCGS AU58 sold for $4,465 as Heritage 7/16: 4601 while a nice CAC approved PCGS AU58 realized $5,405 in the Legend 2/16 auction.
Nice quality for the date and the grade and an excellent value at under $5,000.
CAC has approved 30 in this grade with 19 finer.
