"Eureka Hoard" Pedigree.
This popular pre-Civil War Type One issue is common in lower grades but it is scarce in properly graded AU58 and rare in Uncirculated. Most of the coins graded AU58 are not choice and they lack original skin.
This attractive slider shows no real wear; just some bag friction on the high spots. It is toned to a warm golden-orange hue and there is a good amount of underlying luster. A few contact marks can be seen in the left obverse field.
The last AU58 1860 double eagle with CAC approval to sell at auction was a nice PCGS coin which brought $5,405 as Legend 2/16: 424.
For most double eagle collectors, this is all the 1860 that they will need.
CAC has approved 30 in this grade with 19 finer.
