IMPORTANT 1850-O DOUBLE EAGLE

The 1850-O is the first Liberty Head double eagle produced at the New Orleans mint. It is not scarce in EF45 but most examples in 45 holders are exceedingly bagmarked and have been copiously scrubbed.

This sharply struck example is very clean for the issue with especially unabraded obverse fields. The strike is sharper than normal and some dirt residue can be seen across the reverse.

Three PCGS EF45 1850-O double eagles were sold at auction in 2014 (none crossed the block in 2015) and they sold for $7,050, $8,525 and $8,813, respectively. None were approved by CAC.

This date is expensive and hard to find choicer than this.
