"DIRTY" AU50 1882-O EAGLE

With an issuance of 10,820, the 1882-O is the most available of the scarcer, low mintage trio of New Orleans eagles made after the rare 1879-O and prior to the very rare 1883-O. The 1882-O is scarce in the low AU grades and it is not often seen with natural color.

This dirty gold example is likely from Europe as it shows deep yellow-gold color accentuated by deeper highlights. The surfaces show the typical marks seen on this issue with the most noticeable located at the throat and jawline of Liberty. This piece has likely never been cleaned or dipped and is unusual as such.

No PCGS AU50 1882-O eagle has sold at auction since May 2009. The last two NGC AU50's, both inferior to this piece in my opinion, sold for $1,543 and $1,763 in 2014.

A nice, affordable example of this popular scarcer With Motto New Orleans eagle.
