VERY AFFORDABLE RARE 1845-O QUARTER EAGLE
The 1845-O is far and away the most difficult New Orleans quarter eagle to locate with fewer than 100 known from an original mintage of just 4,000. This issue is not often seen in affordable, problem-free grades.
This example shows excellent overall detail for the assigned grade with the obverse a clear VF30 in terms of detail. Both sides show nice natural russet color which deepens at the borders. A shallow old semi-circular make in the left obverse field seems to be mint-made.
No PCGS VF20 1845-O quarter eagle has ever sold at auction. This same coin sold for $1,528 as a PCGS F15 (in an older holder) as Heritage 10/16: 4348.
It isn't likely that another 1845-O quarter eagle exists which is this nice yet this affordable.
