FROSTY YELLOW-GOLD 1836 QUARTER EAGLE IN PCGS MS63

Script 8. Redbook variety.

Varieties of this date are known with a Block 8 and a script 8. They appear to be of equal overall rarity. All 1836 quarter eagles are scarce in nice MS63 and very scarce in MS64. While two coins—both ex Pogue—have been graded MS65+ by PCGS, I don’t consider either to be a full-blown Gem.

This coin is totally fresh-to-the-market as I last sold it—in an NGC holder—almost 15 years ago. It shows excellent full frosty luster with rich 100% natural yellow-gold color. There are a few scuffs on both sides which are what likely kept this coin from being approved by CAC.

Three non-CAC 1836 Script 8 quarter eagles have sold at auction since 2020 with the most recent for $6,600 in the Stacks Bowers 9/2025 sale.

An excellent affordable higher grade Classic Head quarter.
