THE NEWMAN 1876-CC DOUBLE EAGLE, NGC/CAC AU55

This popular Centennial issue is one of the two most available Type Two double eagles from the Carson City mint. The 1876-CC is not scarce in AU55 but most pieces I see in this grade are either heavily abraded or have been enhanced.

This cosmetically appealing coin has minimal wear but it does show some friction from cabinet storage on its high spots. Both sides are very frosty and show pleasing rich natural yellow-gold color. The strike and surfaces are above-average and this is a really pleasing coin with a great pedigree to match.

Non-CAC NGC AU55 1876-CC double eagles routinely sell at auction in the $6,000-6,500 range and don't come close to this coin in terms of quality.

CAC has approved 24 in this grade with 64 finer.

Ex Newman V (Heritage 11/14): 7638 where it realized $7,638.
