SCARCE PCGS/CAC MS62 1897-O EAGLE

In the "short set" of late date New Orleans eagles, the 1897-O is the second scarcest issue after the 1899-O. It is not often seen in grades higher than MS62 to MS63 and many in MS62 holders are baggy and lack natural color.

This very high end example has never been dipped or brightened and it shows nice green-gold and rosy-orange hues atop surfaces with only a minimal amount of shallow marks.

A PCGS MS62+ with CAC approval sold for $3,760 as Heritage 2017 FUN: 6941 and in my opinion it was not as choice as the present piece.

If you can find one, a PCGS MS63 1897-O eagle with CAC approval will run $7,000-8,000 and will likely not be much nicer than this coin.

CAC has approved 17 in this grade with 5 finer.
