AFFORDABLE COLLECTOR GRADE 1854-D QUARTER WITH CAC APPROVAL

Variety 18-N.

The 1854-D is the fourth rarest Dahlonega quarter eagle with fewer than 100 known from the tiny mintage of 1,760. This is an extremely difficult issue to locate in comparatively affordable collector grades as most in the VF-EF range are either damaged or have terrible eye appeal.

This piece shows a typical soft strike but it is evenly worn with natural russet-gold color across surfaces which lack the often seen planchet issues which plague the issue. In fact, this is an uncommonly choice piece with better overall eye appeal than more expensive AU examples.

Only one PCGS EF40---this coin--has sold at auction since June 1997. See below for the pedigree.

Collectors on a budget know how hard it is to locate an acceptable 1854-D quarter eagle.

CAC has approved one in this grade with four finer.

Ex Heritage 10/16: 5462 where it brought $5,405 without CAC approval.
