NICE COLLECTOR QUALITY 1889-CC DOUBLE EAGLE

The 1889-CC is among the more available Type Three issues from the Carson City mint. It is often seen in the EF grades but not so often with a CAC-worthy appearance.

Housed in an old pre-barcode blue label holder, this coin seems undergraded as a 45 and more closely resembles an AU50. It is weakly struck at the upper obverse but is lustrous and nicely toned with natural orange-gold hues on both sides.

The last two PCGS EF45 1889-CC double eagles to sell at auction both brought $3,525 (one in 2014, the other in 2016) and neither was CAC approved.

CAC has approved 15 in this grade with 30 finer.

Ex Heritage 8/10: 6226 where it sold for $2,300.
