PCGS MS61 1883-CC DOUBLE EAGLE

The 1883-CC is among the more available Type Three double eagles from this mint. It is scarce in the lower Uncirculated grades and it becomes rare in MS62 and above.

This fresh-to-the-market example has pleasing natural orange-gold and rose colors clinging to frosty, non-abraded surfaces. A few shallow scuffs in the right obverse field limit the grade but this piece has good overall eye appeal for the date and grade.

Two PCGS MS61 1883-CC twenties have sold at auction so far this year. Goldberg 2/17: 1361 brought $12,925 while Heritage 1/17: 6044 was bid up to $15,275.

If available, a PCGS MS62 example of this date would cost in excess of $20,000 which makes this nice MS61 a seemingly good value.
