RARE PCGS MS62 1882-CC DOUBLE EAGLE
The 1882-CC is a very scarce double eagle in higher grades and it is almost never seen in MS62 or higher grades.
This is the single finest example of this date that I have offered in close to a decade and it shows soft, frosty luster below natural light yellow-gold and rose color. The surfaces are uncharacteristically choice for the issue with just a few minor ticks seen in the fields.
Two recent APR's are noted for PCGS MS62 1882-CC double eagles: this exact coin which sold for $29,375 as Stacks Bowers 10/14: 10243 and another piece which sold earlier in 2014 for $30,550.
With a population of just two finer than MS62, this coin represents the finest available quality for the issue.
