NICE PCGS MS61 1875-CC DOUBLE EAGLE

Along with the 1876-CC, this is one of two Type Two Carson City double eagles which is sometimes available in higher grades. Uncirculated examples of this date are usually seen in MS60 to MS62 and any piece grading higher is rare (and expensive).

The two things that are most notable about this coin are its thick, frosty mint luster and its pleasing rich, natural orange-gold color. There are a few light ticks in the upper left obverse field which preclude a higher grade but I have seen many worse examples in MS62 holders.

The last PCGS MS61 1875-CC double eagle to sell at auction realized $15,275 as Heritage 9/16: 5770.

This would be a perfect Type Two example for inclusion in a meaningful set of US gold coin designs.
