DESIRABLE SSCA 1856-S DOUBLE EAGLE WITH ORIGINAL PACKAGING

SS Central America pedigree; Variety 17L, no serif, tilted S. SSCA #5839.

This is the second most prevalent Double Eagle found in this shipwreck but it is seen far less often than the 1857-S. Despite this fact, the 1856-S doesn't command a significant premium when available.

Housed in its original gold-foil label slab, this piece clearly graded AU58 by today's standards and it shows little--if any--wear and rich sun-gold color on both sides. There is some friction seen in the left obverse field while the reverse is extremely choice.

Heritage 9/16: 14312, a non-CAC example of this issue sold for $5,405 while another piece with CAC approval realized $5,640 as Heritage 1/16: 6626.

This piece comes with the original presentation box and the signed Certificate of Auhtenticity.

CAC has approved 30 in this grade with 35 finer.
