RARE 1899-O EAGLE, PCGS/CAC MS63 OGH

Housed in an old green label holder and very choice for the assigned grade by today's standards.

The 1899-O is the scarcest post-1883 eagle from New Orleans, easily eclipsing the 1897-O and the 1906-O. It is seldom seen above MS62 and many of the ones I have seen in MS63 holders are low end for the grade.

Housed in an old holder, this coin is very choice with lovely deep natural orange-gold color resting on frosty, mark-free surfaces. There is a toning spot on the tip of Liberty's nose and some light mint-made grease stains on her jawline; the central reverse shows natural planchet discoloration which I have seen on other 1899-O eagles.

The last PCGS MS63 1899-O eagle with CAC approval to sell at auction brought $8,225 as Heritage 10/12: 6074. An oddly toned PCGS MS63+ without CAC approval sold for $9,400 as Heritage 4/16: 5931.

This date is essentially unavailable finer than this.

CAC has approved five in this grade with five finer.
