RARE PCGS AU50 1876-CC EAGLE
This scarce issue--which is most comparable to the 1875-CC within this series--has an estimated 100-125 known from a mintage of just 4,696. This date is rare in properly graded AU50 to AU53, very rare in the higher AUgrades and unknown in Uncirculated.
This choice example has mark-free surfaces and natural russet color which deepens at the edges. The strike shows typical weakness at the centers but the overall details are sharp and the appearance is suggestive of a higher grade.
An NGC AU50 1876-CC sold for $15,275 as Heritage 1/17: 5949 while a PCGS/CAC AU50 which was not much different in quality to the present piece realized $17,625 as Heritage 12/14: 3811.
It has been quite a while since I've handled a higher grade 1876-CC and this scarce Centennial issue should fit nicely into an advanced set.
