POPULAR COLLECTOR GRADE 1874-CC EAGLE

The 1874-CC is the most available Carson City eagle struck during the 1870's. It is seen most often in the VF and EF grades and it becomes rare--and expensive--in About Uncirculated. Most of the EF examples I see are very unappealing with poor strikes and a distinct lack of originality.

This is a textbook "Choice EF" coin which retains a considerable amount of originality as evidenced by its deep, even russet hues. The strike is far better than usual for the issue while the surfaces are quite clean with just a few minor marks seen.

Three NGC EF45's were auctioned in 2014 and the results varied from a low of $5,405 to a high of $7,050.

For most collectors, the best value grade for this issue is EF45 and this piece is a sensible purchase.
