CONDITIONALLY RARE PCGS AU55 1855-O EAGLE

This is one of the hardest No Motto New Orleans eagles to locate in higher grades and the 1855-O is genuinely rare in properly graded AU55 as evidenced by the low PCGS population.

This fresh-to-the-market example is well-defined for the issue with bold centers and enough reflective flash to suggest that it was among the first struck. Both sides are lightly abraded and show pleasing light to medium orange-gold color. This is a solid coin for the grade and it is not all that far removed from the tail end of the Condition Census.

Three PCGS AU55's have sold at auction since 2010. The most recent of these was the low-end Simpson/Hall coin which brought $8,519 in September 2015. A nicer PCGS AU55 sold for $9,400 in June 2014.

Nice examples of this date are in demand and the supply is very limited.
