VERY SCARCE CAC APPROVED EF45 1855-O EAGLE

Just 18,000 eagles were struck at the New Orleans mint in 1855 and around 100-125 exist today with most in the EF40-AU50 range. Collector grade pieces with good eye appeal are extremely hard to locate as most 1855-O eagles have been cleaned and were widely circulated.

This is one of the nicer EF 1855-O eagles I have seen or offered and it is original with deep, even russet color over uncommonly smooth surfaces.

There are only two auction records for EF45 1855-O eagles with CAC approval. One was this exact coin which brought $3,738 as Heritage 7/12: 4990. The other was $3,525 for a coin which wasn't as choice; it was sold by Heritage in April 2015.

This represents the best available quality for this date at less than $4,000.

CAC has approved three in this grade and just one finer; only five 1855-O eagles in total have been approved as of today.
