Small Date variety; designated by PCGS.
Varieties of 1850 eagles are known with a Small Date and a Large Date with the former being at least twice as rare. It is not often seen in grades above AU50 to AU53 and even less often with natural color and choice surfaces.
This choice, undipped example shows deep natural green-gold with some orange-gold shadings. The surfaces lack any of the major abrasions typically seen on this variety.
Since October 2014 only one PCGS AU50 has sold at auction.
This feels like exceptional value at well under $2,000.
