CONDITIONALLY SCARCE 1842-O EAGLE

While not scarce in lower grades, properly graded AU55 1842-O eagles are scarce and this date is very rare (and very expensive) in Uncirculated.

Unlike most 1842-O eagles this example hasn't been scrubbed; like most 1842-O eagles this piece is "chattery" with visible (but mostly shallow) abrasions seen in the fields. The color is a pleasing medium orange-gold which changes to olive in the fields and there is a good deal of remaining luster.

This date is nearly impossible to locate finer than AU55 and for most collectors a nice example such as the present piece will sufficiently fill this hole in their New Orleans eagle set.
