POPULAR CIVIL WAR 1865 DOUBLE EAGLE
The 1865 is the second most available Civil War double eagle from the Philadelphia mint but it is many times harder to find than the most common date, the 1861.
As is sometimes seen on this date, the surfaces are slightly reflective and they shimmer below natural russet color; a band of deeper color can be seen at the upper reverse. The strike is bold and the surfaces are sharp.
An NGC AU53 1865 double eagle realized $3,290 as Heritage 2016 ANA: 6020.
A nice, affordable Civil War double eagle.
