MISUNDERSTOOD 1857-S $10, PCGS AU50
As a result of the ultra-common 1857-S $20, the similarly-dated $10 is misunderstood when it comes to rarity. The 1857-S $10 is, in fact, a very scarce coin that is almost never seen in AU55 and higher grades.
The appearance of this example is far more natural for the typical 1857-S, which tends to be heavily abraded and often bleached in appearance from harsh processing.
There have only been three PCGS AU50 1857-S eagles sold at auction since mid-2016.
