With a mintage of only 5,000, the 1876-S is tied with the 1860-S for the second fewest With Motto eagles struck at this facility. An estimated 75-100 are known with AU55 representing the best available quality for the issue. A single AU58 has been graded by PCGS, and it sold for a very strong $75,000 as Stack’s Bowers 4/2024: 4320.
This is a totally original 1876-S eagle with nice medium-to-deep green-gold color. A shallow old curving mark in the upper left obverse field is likely the reason for this coin not receiving approval at CAC.
A condition census example that should fit well into almost any set of SF $10 Libs.
