NICE COLLECTOR GRADE 1848-C QUARTER EAGLE

Variety 1.

The 1848-C is one of the more common Charlotte quarter eagles in terms of overall rarity but it is scarce in higher grades. Many of those seen in VF and EF grades have been cleaned or have severe weakness of strike.

This deeply toned Choice VF shows predominately green-gold hues and seems to have more detail than expected for a coin graded VF30. Some weakness of strike can be seen on the star radials and the centers.

No PCGS VF30 1848-C quarter eagle has sold at auction since Heritage 5/08: 3000 which realized $2,013.
