CHOICE EF 1803/2 HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

BD-1, R-3.

Very few Capped Bust Right half eagles exist in "straight-grade" Extremely Fine and even fewer of these are choice and original. This type generally did not see enough circulation to wear down as far as this and "collector quality" for this type is usually an expensive AU example.

This very handsome early half eagle shows deep "old gold" color with the darkest areas seen to the right of the date and at the outside of the obverse stars. The detail is excellent and the surfaces are choice. There is a tiny rim bump at 5:00 on the obverse and another at 5:00 on the reverse.

A non-CAC PCGS EF45 example of this date sold for $7,931 as Heritage 6/16: 4792 while a seemingly way overgraded NGC EF45 sold for $7,050 as Heritage 2015 ANA: 6147.

Here is a comparatively affordable early half eagle with real eye appeal and character.

CAC has approved 6 in this grade with 84 finer.
