RARE MS62 1864-S TWENTY DOLLAR WITH NATURAL SURFACES
The rarity of this date in Uncirculated has changed due to shipwrecks but it remains very scarce in properly graded MS62 and it is all but unknown in grades higher than this.
This very attractive golden-rose example is among the nicer 1864-S twenties I have seen with no evidence of seawater surfaces and pleasing natural color. There are a few minor scuffs as associated with the grade but this piece is choice and it has good overall appeal.
Two SS Republic shipwreck 1864-S double eagles in NGC MS62 sold at auction in the 2017 FUN sale and they brought $17,625 and $18,800, respectively.
If available, a nice MS63 1864-S double eagle would run you $0,000+ and that seems like an overbuy to me.
