PCGS AU55 1844-O EAGLE

While fairly common in the lower AU grades, properly graded AU55 and AU58 1844-O eagles are rare and this date is very rare in full Uncirculated.

This very frosty example shows light orange-gold color and the wear is confined to the high spots on the obverse. There are the expected small marks peppering the fields but this piece is cleaner and more wholesome than most 1844-O eagles seen in this grade.

Only two PCGS AU55 1844-O eagles have sold at auction since 2001 and the last realized $4,700 as Heritage 2/17: 5097.

This date is difficult to find nicer than this and this specific coin is the best available quality for the issue at less than $5,000.
