Just 10,000 were struck and the 1858-S is a scarce, undervalued issue which is one of only five Type Three gold dollars from San Francisco.
This is a very choice, naturally toned example with the naked-eye appearance of an AU55. The surfaces are especially clean for the issue.
No CAC approved AU50 1858-S gold dollar has sold at auction. Three PCGS AU50's have sold since 2011 and they brought $1,380, $1,208 and $1,116, respectively.
