PCGS AU50 1883-CC HALF EAGLE

Only four half eagles were struck at the Carson City mint during the 1880's and the 1883-CC is the second scarcest of these after the 1881-CC. Only 12,958 were produced and this date is an underappreciated issue which is scarce in the lower AU grades and rare in properly graded AU55 and higher.

This piece is uncommonly clean for the issue and it lacks the abrasions seen on most 1883-CC half eagles. It has rich natural russet color on both sides and it shows a typical strike with some flatness on the central high spots. The eye appeal is excellent.

No PCGS AU50 has sold at auction since January 2004 and only one NGC AU50 has crossed the block in over a decade; it realized $3,305 as Heritage 9/16: 13738.

Excellent vaalue at less than $4,000 and a really hard date to find nicer.
